Safe Driving Is Our Focus!

The first step to becoming a great driver begins here at First Stop Driver Education, LLC. Attend our hands-on driver’s education classes, and allow our brilliant instructors to share their skills and knowledge with you. Our trained professionals are state-certified and share a unique approach and passion for teaching and coaching students. More importantly, our driver’s education courses consist of both classroom and behind the wheel instruction. It is a priority for us to give our students the required knowledge about the rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to become a safe driver.

A Guide to Our Driver’s Education Instruction

Requirements

It is required by the State of Michigan for individuals obtaining a driver’s license under the age of 18 to first successfully complete the requirements for Segment 1 and Segment 2 courses. The requirements for Segment 1 and 2 are as follows:

Segment 1


  • Must be at least age 14 years and 8 months
  • Must complete at least 24 hours of classroom instruction over a consecutive 3-week period
  • Must complete at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction
  • Must complete at least 4 hours of observation time behind-the-wheel instruction
  • Must pass a written exam with a score of at least 70%

** A parent meeting is required at some point during Segment 1. **All students will need to obtain a Level 1 license (teen learner’s permit) from the Secretary of State Office after successfully completing Segment 1 at no cost to you, in order to continue the process for obtaining a driver’s license.

Segment 2


  • Must have held and shown proof of a valid Level 1 license for at least 3 consecutive months
  • Must show proof of at least 30 out of 50 required hours/that includes 2 out of 10 required night-driving hours of behind-the-wheel practice with parental guidance and signature
  • Must complete at least 6 hours of classroom instruction for review and preparing students for the road test
  • Must pass a written exam with a score of at least 70%


**All students may take the road test at any time up to one year after successfully completing Segment 2, a minimum of 6 months at level 1, and have completed at least a total of 50 required behind-the-wheel hours that include 10 night-time driving hours with a parent or designated licensed driver who is 21 years or older. The road test will require a fee.

Dedicated Driver Instructors

Our instructors are very patient and will do their best to provide fun, interactive, and simple to complex classroom instruction. We also have trained professionals who are experts in teaching students with challenges in reading and/or writing. As needed, our instructors can assist these particular students with taking the test orally.
